A proper light June 19, 2007, Index-Tribune Editor, Index-Tribune: You need to shed a proper light on a wonderful child/student/person after the Attaining Goals article by Claudia Reed was printed June 5. I had the incredible privilege to be Chloe Dator's side-by-side aide at the Sonoma Charter School when Chloe was finishing her eighth-grade year, excitedly about to go on to the high school. I now teach full-time and my experience with Chloe taught me reams about human nature and what a student who works hard can actually accomplish.
I was so disappointed, as I'm sure anyone was who read your description of Chloe in the article, that Chloe did not suffer from anything, much less Down syndrome. She was a very high achieving female student capable of intelligent opinions on music, teenage philosophies and life in general. Her sense of humor was a key component to her personality |

Objects to Language June 29, 2007, Index-Tribune When I read the article on senior projects, I was pleased to see Caroline Casias’ activities to honor her friend, Chloe Dator. I was Chloe’s Full Inclusion teacher for 7 1/2 years and had the pleasure of first meeting Caroline when she was in fourth grade at Sonoma Charter School with Chloe. However, there were errors in the article that I would like to address. The article gave the impression that Caroline established the Chloe Sabrina Dator Memorial Foundation at the suggestion of Chloe’s mother, Dani Dator. In fact, Dani established the foundation shortly after Chloe’s painfully untimely death. Parents and friends of Chloe’s from the Charter School, including Caroline, joined later and have been working on behalf of the foundation since. Please see http://www.chloesdreams.org/index.htm for more information. |

Honoring Chloe Dator June 19, 2007, Index-Tribune Index-Tribune Editor: I read the recent I-T article "Attaining goals" with great interest and agree that Caroline Casias deserves a well-earned round of applause for her fund-raising efforts in "The Chloe's Dream Foundation Scholarship." Nevertheless, I feel compelled to correct some of the information offered.
Although Caroline handily took the fund-raising torch on behalf of the foundation, it was founded by Dani Dator (Chloe's mother) in August 2006, following Chloe's sudden death from pulmonary thromboembolism (not a heart attack).
This mother's grief was the birthing ground of the foundation. The first fund-raising attempts for the scholarships were made by Dani Dator, Jaqui Wayt and myself, in September 2006 at the National Down Syndrome Society Annual Buddy Walk in Santa Rosa - and again, in October 2006, at the local Tuesday night farmers' market in Sonoma. |

Class of 2007 ready for world Students prepared for rough ride June 12, 2007, Index-Tribune Despite the beach balls suddenly taking to the air from the seats of black-robed, graduating seniors, the Sonoma Valley High School class of 2007 seemed to be fully aware of the difficult world they have inherited. Even the grand entry was marked by solemn ceremony as each senior stopped to place a carnation on the empty chair of classmate Chloe Sabrina Dator, who died a few months ago.
Nor was the death of a classmate the only tragedy these students had witnessed. Most were just approaching their teens when the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States left about 3,000 dead.

Chloe’s Dreams Foundation launched December 28, 2006, Sonoma Sun Kudos and colored pencils to the 150 youngsters throughout Sonoma Valley who recently participated in the “Chloë’s Dreams Coloring Contest.”
Chloë’s Dreams is a foundation created to further the educational and artistic achievements in music, dance, visual, and performing arts by providing scholarships to children with Down Syndrome or other disabilities. It honors Chloë Dator, an 18-year-old Sonoma Valley High School student who passed away last August just days before beginning her senior year.
The coloring contest was both a tribute to Chloë’s pursuits as well as a way to raise awareness for the foundation that bears her name.
